Throughout his long career, Art Hodes was a combatant for traditional wind, whether through his classifiable forte-piano playing, his writings (which included many articles and ocean liner notes), or his play on wireless and educational telecasting. Renowned for the feeling he put into blues, Hodes was curiously effective on up-tempo tunes, where his on-the-beat chordings from his left hand could be quite exciting.
